Auto Maintenance FAQs

How often should I get my oil changed?
For a long time and sometimes still today, standard practice at many lube shops is to suggest oil changes every three months or 3,000 miles. In order to know when the best time to get your oil changed is, check the owner’s manual of your specific model for manufacturer-recommended intervals.
What should I do if my car overheats?
If your car overheats, pull over safely and turn off the engine. Prior to monitoring the coolant level, let the engine cool. If you have extra coolant, add it if it's low. Have a mechanic check your car if the issue continues.
Do I need to charge my battery after I jump-start my vehicle?
Jump-starting a vehicle provides enough power to start the engine, but it doesn't fully recharge the battery. The battery may have lost a significant amount of its charge, and driving alone might not be enough to replenish it fully, especially if you only have a short drive. Repeatedly allowing the battery to drain and then jump-starting it without fully recharging can shorten its lifespan. Batteries are designed to be maintained at a certain level of charge to ensure longevity.
How do I know when I need new brakes?
When you apply the brakes and your car pulls to one side, this could be the result of uneven brake pad wear or a brake caliper issue. Again, warped brake rotors may be the cause if you apply the brakes and feel a pulsating or vibrating feeling via the brake pedal. When you press the brakes, a high-pitched screech typically means that the brake pads are getting worn down. When the noise starts to sound more like grinding, it usually indicates that the brake pads are entirely worn down and that the braking rotor is being ground down by the metal backing of the pads.
